Apiranthos, 12 x 16, oil, #120

Posted April 29th, 2012 by | No Comments

Another sketch from last fall’s trip to Greece. This is a house in the hill town of Apiranthos, on Naxos, a wonderful town with lots of houses built in the late 1800s, and streets paved with marble. It’s difficult to get a view of the sea from this village, but this house has a great view of the valley across from the town.

Another photo ref taken by Brad Offutt. I wanted to paint this barista reaching to enter something into the coffee shop computer, and I liked her outfit.

From a photo ref taken by Brad Offutt. I liked the figure sitting in the window, and how the clothing related to the surroundings.

This is my first pass at this subject. I just loved all the colors in the chair, and the hat. I need to intensify the deck more, and move her over a little, but …tomorrow’s another day (and a busy one).

Olympic Fields, 16 x20, oil, #111

This is a rework of a plein air painting done about three years ago in a park near Sequim. Not much was left of the original after I tried to unify what was a very spotty painting. The sky changed as well, which made me add water to the field, which looked like it might well be wet after our rainy spring.
